Scraper Tips and Tricks: Get the Most Out of Your Blentech System

Here’s how to optimize your scrapers for the best performance.

Scrapers do more than sweep the bowl—they prevent burn-on, improve mixing, and help maintain consistent texture and flavor, especially in thick or delicate blends. By keeping heated surfaces clean, they reduce waste, support even heating, and protect product quality. Regular inspection and timely replacement are essential to keep your Blentech system performing at its best.

In this video, Blentech’s scrapers gently move whole carrots during cooking, preventing burn-on, promoting even cooking, and preserving product integrity. It’s a perfect look at how scrapers do more than clean—they protect quality, batch after batch.

We offer metal-detectable, X-ray detectable, and dual-detectable (metal + X-ray) scraper options to support your plant’s foreign material control program. These safety-enhancing materials make it easier to identify worn or broken components before they impact your product.

When to Replace Scrapers

Blentech scrapers are built for longevity, but all wear parts need to be replaced eventually.

Replacement triggers:

  • After 2,600 miles* (3-6 months, depending on your production schedule.
We can schedule order reminders to help keep maintenance on track.
  • Product starts sticking, or batch quality changes
  • The scraper is visibly worn past the marked line

Scraper Alignment & Tensioning Service

If you’re seeing uneven wear, our service team can visit your site to inspect, align, and properly tension your scrapers for optimal performance and longevity.

Tips for Proper Replacement

  • Use only Blentech-supplied bolts—they’re single-use due to epoxy thread-locking
  • Inspect bolt holes and clean out any material before installation
  • Apply food-grade RTV around mounting surfaces (avoid bolt holes!)
  • Torque to 22 ft-lbs and ensure the blade is parallel to the agitator shaft
  • Allow 24 hours to cure the RTV before returning to operation
  • Don’t bend springs to increase pressure—it leads to premature wear

We also offer scraper upgrades for legacy systems.

*A Word on Longevity: Blentech’s patented scraper systems are rated for a defined scraping distance—up to 2,600 miles in some applications. We translate this into approximate run time for ease of planning, but actual wear varies based on the size of the cooker, process speeds, and number of agitator rotations. That’s why proper alignment, a good fit for the application, and routine inspection are key to maximizing scraper life.
