We made it to the next round of the Coolest Thing Made in California competition! Thanks to everyone who voted, Blentech’s BlenTherm + AutoChef system is now one of 16 products competing in the small and medium-sized manufacturer bracket.
This round features head-to-head matchups, and we are facing a very cool example of California engineering: Pyka’s Pelican 2. Manufactured in Alameda, the Pelican 2 is an autonomous electric aircraft designed to spray crops with precision.
This matchup is one small part of a bracket that shows the remarkable range of California’s small and medium-sized manufacturers. The competitors represent nearly the entire food chain, from an autonomous aircraft supporting crop production, to the equipment used to process food, to finished products such as hot sauce and drink syrups.
Food is only part of the story. Other manufacturers in the bracket are building satellites, guitars, and an assortment of products shaped by California engineering and creativity. With small businesses representing 89% of the state’s manufacturers, the new SMM bracket gives these companies and their work a well-deserved place in the spotlight.
We are proud of the Blentech team behind BlenTherm + AutoChef. Designed, engineered, programmed, and manufactured in Santa Rosa, the system helps food processors control recipes, improve batch consistency, document production, and safely produce foods enjoyed by millions of people.

Voting in the Top 16 Round is open September 21–24. The winner of our head-to-head matchup will advance to the Top 8.
